Each modelled with a putto supporting two cornucopiae with foliate-cast nozzles, above a fluted columnar and laurel wreath plinth and square base

Lot Essay

This model of candelabra is generally associated with the oeuvre of the sculptor Claude Michel, dit Clodion, and enjoyed enormous success in both the 18th and 19th Century. A closely related pair was purchased by a Mr. Fortnum in London in 1852 from the collection of Léopold I, King of the Belgians, and is now at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
