TENUTA DI TRINORO
Much has been written about the "Tuscan Eccentric" (to borrow Jancis Robinson's phrase) Andrea Franchetti, the founder of Tenuta di Trinoro, but none better than his own biography as told to Ms. Robinson in an early interview: "I had a restaurant in Rome, distributed Italian wines in New York from 1982 to 1986 and before that I was in a beautiful tunnel of dope." Founded only in 1992, his wines have become some of the most famous cults of Italy. The Palazzi Rosso di Toscano is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and was sadly last made in the great vintage of 1999. All of the grapes from these holdings now find themselves in the flagship Tenuta di Trinoro or the "second" wine Le Cupole.
