Lot Essay

This may be the Sunshine in Kerry composition which Henry included in his Dublin exhibition, reviewing which the Irish Press (9 April 1940) thought it 'glows with light and beauty', a description that well suits the image. Stylistically, too, the picture must date from around 1939-40, a time when Henry paid a number of visits to County Kerry and when his palette and touch, as here, were both light and fluid.

We are very grateful to Dr Brian Kennedy for preparing this catalogue entry.
