Lot Essay

This wing armchair has the flattened serpentine stretcher joining the legs, so frequently found on Irish chairs of the mid-18th Century. The serpentine line, so beloved of Irish craftsmen, is echoed throughout, particularly on the graceful curve of the back. The legs have elongated scrolls at the tops and faceted pad feet, both Irish characteristics.
