Lot Essay

From army lists, it is probable that Lieutenant Napier was Edward Hungerford Delavel Elers Napier, of the 46th Regiment. With an element of humour, the picture is re-presented on the table while Napier's friend, Lieutenant Lacy, reads in front of the fire, enjoying a cigar. The chair is an X-framed Douro, which could turn into a table and would easily pack up inside a case, lending itself well to military campaigns.
