Lot Essay

This compass-fronted chair, with shell-decked , truss-scrolled and Jupiter eagle-clawed foot, corresponds to a George IV library-chair pattern in the Old English style featured in the 1827 Estimate Sketch Book of Messrs Gillow of London and Lancaster (see S. E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, 2 vols. Woodbridge, 2008, pl.225)
