Lot Essay

These wall-lights in the fashionable goût grec of the late 1760s and 1770s, bear a close resemblance to several models by well-known bronziers. The influential designer Jean-Charles Delafosse conceived examples with the distictive tête de bélier feature. Similar wall-lights are illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et.al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 186, fig 3.9.
