The musical stone carved and pierced with archaistic dragons and phoenix surrounding a central shou character, suspended by chain links connected to a smaller plaque with prunus designs and further links connecting to a pierced clasp, on an elaborate carved wood stand with ruyi and scrollwork designs

Lot Essay

Sir Eric Drummond, The 16th Earl of Perth, was the first Secretary General of the League of Nations after World War I. Upon his retirement, various countries presented him with gifts, including the current lot, which is believed to have been given to him by the Chinese Government in the early 1930s.
