DATED QIANLONG GUIMAO YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO AD 1783, AND OF THE PERIOD
Of short cylindrical form with an everted rim, the exterior with a long gilt inscription followed by a seal, bide, the base with two confronted dragons encircling the trigram qian, the top with four circular holes

The current lot was most likely made as a liner for a jade cong, thus rendering it into a single-stem flower vase.

For a discussion on the possible usage of these cloisonné enamel liners, see The Minor Arts of China IV, Spink & Son Ltd, London, 1989, no. 88, p. 71

For a related example in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, see Emperor Ch'ien-lung's Grand Cultural Enterprise, National Palace Museum, 2002, p. 108, III-1, where the author discusses that such liners were used for cong jade vessels (fig.1).
