Lot Essay

The 17th century block-printed paper lining the drawers incorporates the arms of the Company of Haberdashers of the City of London and is personalised with initials (the first indistinct, the second 'T'). A search of the Company's registers shows a William Taylor as Master in 1648 and Francis Towneley as Master in 1669.
