A George II burr-elm striking eight day longcase clock

The caddy top hood with narrow glazed side panels and pilaster angles, narrow trunk door above stepped plinth with raised panel, restorations, the 12 in. brass cut away dial with bird and urn spandrels to silvered chapter ring with entwined leaf half hour markers and signed 'Tho. S OGDEN Halifax', matted and foliate engraved centre with subsidiary seconds and date aperture, blued steel hands, the arch with rolling moon, the movement with four ringed-turned pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell

Lot Essay

Thomas Ogden (1693-1769) was the second son of the renowned clockmaker Samuel Ogden of Ripponden. His work is known to be of exceptional quality and includes the earliest North Country example of a world time dial.
