The related print is inscribed: 'COLLIGIT Octobri MATURAS VINITOR UVAS, GAUDET ET HINC DULCI MUSTO MADERE IVVENTUS.' On it the zodiacal sign is altered from the scales of Libra (September) to the correct one of Scorpio of October.
Although the engravings after this and the following lot give Van de Passe's name only as the publisher, and the series were believed to have been engraved after De Vos, these preparatory drawings would seem to be by the engraver, Van de Passe. The figure types, pen work and handling of wash is similar to drawings such as Orpheus and Arion in the Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin (E. Bock and J. Rosenberg, Die Zeichnungen Niederländischer Meister im Kupferstichkabinett zu Berlin, Berlin, 1930, nos. 2260-1) and Arion in the Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen (inv. no. Mag.11).
