Details
Château Latour--Vintage 1962
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Two slightly corroded capsules. Very bin-soiled and torn labels. Levels: one into neck, two very top and one just below top-shoulder
Vintage note: Thoroughly upstaged by the quality, the sheer bravado of the preceding year. But because the 1961 vintage was very small and, in the light of the times, very expensive, the abundant crop of the very good '62s following a satisfactory growing season, proved useful. I have always liked this now somewhat underrated and overlooked vintage. It was particularly successful in Pomerol. ****. Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine

Tasting note: Not long after bottling, deep purple, packed with fruit, but raw and tannic. Developing well through the 1970s and 1980s, on several occasions warranting 5 stars. More recently, a still deeply coloured magnum with good fruit though showing signs of cracking up on the nose. Surprisingly sweet yet tannic. A bit stalky (tasted blind in 1996). Most recently, similar depth, with reddish tinge; a classic Médoc nose and very good flavour, body and finish. Last noted at a dinner hosted by David Orr at Ch Rausan-Ségla, Sept 1998. At best ****.
