Hans Vlieghe, who does not endorse the attribution, has pointed out that the composition is related to that of a picture in the Städtisches Museum, Munich, erroneously attributed to Erasmus Quellinus II.

J.F.A Dikkes has kindly pointed out that a painted verson of this subject, An Allegory of War and Peace, was sold, Sotheby Parke Bernet, 9 January 1980, lot 240, illustrated (as School of P.P. Rubens).

Comparable to Van Thulden's drawing of similar subject and technique in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, A.-M. Logan, Flemish Drawings in the Age of Rubens, exhib. cat., Wellesley/Cleveland, 1994-5, no. 70, illustrated. An alternative attribution to Jan Thomas van Yperen has been suggested.
