Sale room notice
Roland de Lathuy has pointed out that this is by Remigio Cantagallina (1582-1656), and was most probably drawn during his travels in Flanders in 1612-3. It is known that on this trip he visited Liège, Brussels and Tamise. He very probably met or worked with Jan Brueghel in Spa, whose influence can also be noticed in Cantagallina's drawings done during this trip in an album in the Musées Royaux des Beaux Arts, Brussels. De Lathuy will publish the present drawing in a forthcoming article on the artist's drawings from this period.
Lot Essay
Attributions to Pieter Schoubroeck (c. 1570/3-1607) and the German Master of the Kurpfälzisches Sketchbook (active c. 1600) have also been suggested.
