Lot Essay

A pair of comparable river scenes of similar technique and format, possibly dated 1724, are at Windsor Castle (C. White and C. Crawley, The Dutch and Flemish Drawings of the Fifteenth to the early Nineteenth Centuries in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle, Cambridge, 1994, nos. 577-8), while others are in the Albertina, Vienna (inv. no. 10787) and the British Museum, A.M. Hind, Catalogue of Drawings by Dutch and Flemish Artists ... in the British Museum, London, 1931, IV, p. 158, no. 1.
