A PALE CELADON JADE LINKED TWIN SECTIONED JEWEL
the flattened pierced and incised sections formed as a fierce feline, the other as a crested bird with long plumage, connected together by a moveable cylindrical link; and three white jade carvings comprising a tree shrew amongst fruiting branches; a mushroom group with russet inclusions; and a pendant formed as hanging bean pods -- the first, 2¾in. (7cm.) high. (4)

Lot Essay

This is a faithful, yet smaller copy of a famous Late Eastern Chou Jade (770-221BC) unearthed in Lo-yang in around 1930. The original is to be found in the Fogg Museum of Art (G. F. Winthrop Bequest), Harvard University.
