A JADE APPLIQUE IN THE FORM OF A CRESTED BIRD, LATE SHANG/EARLY WESTERN ZHOU (1600-771BC)
the stone of light green tone altered to brownish-white, with remains of cinnabar to surface, with sharp beak and long tail, incised eye detailing, drill holes to the chest and beak; a further dark celadon jade bird formed applique with slight remains of cinnabar, incised wing detailing, drill holes to breast and tip of tail feathers, Shang/Western Zhou (1600-771BC); a pale celadon jade applique of a bird inflight, of almost circular form, incised detailing, drill hole to centre of the carving and through tip of beak, Shang/Western Zhou (1600-771BC); and a hardstone carving of a tiger pendant, of pale green tone, modelled in the round with defined legs and long tail, drill hole to jaw, Shang (1600-1100BC) -- the first, 2½in. (6.5cm.) wide. (4)
