decorated with a bird perched on rockwork, the reverse with lines from the poem 'Lan' ('Orchid') by the Confucian scholar Zhu Xi (1130-1200); three gilt and mother of pearl inlaid lacquer brushes and covers, variously decorated with dragons amongst clouds, tree shrews amongst fruiting vines and a stylised geometrical pattern; and a further red lacquer brush -- the fan, 19 3/16in. (48.8cm.) high, each with Japanese wood box. (5)
