A POLYCHROME LACQUER PENTAFOIL DISH, 16TH/17TH CENTURY
carved and then painted in cinnabar, yellow, green and black lacquer depicting a seated scholar viewing a distant waterfall beneath a large overhanging sterculia, the gently curving rim with flowering peony, chrysanthemum and prunus, colourful lingzhi sprays to the underside -- 7in. (17.8cm.) wide.
