Lot Essay

The Rotterdam artist Langendijk is best known for depicting battle scenes between the French and English army, active in Holland after 1785. A comparable drawing by the artist of company making music in an interior dated 1799 is in the Amsterdams Historisch Museum, R. van Gelder, R. Kistemaker, Amsterdam 1275-1795, Amsterdam, 1983, p. 214, illustrated. Both give an interesting insight into the Dutch domestic interior and fashion of the late 18th Century.
