Kato Rihei (1847-1986) came from a silk merchant family in Owari provenance, now called Aichi Prefecture. He carried out commissions for the Imperial Household during the Meiji period (1868-1912).

This embroidary was presented to an American family by Baron Hachisuka of Owari provenance.
