MARK OF JOHN HAMILTON, DUBLIN, 1737
Details
A GEORGE II IRISH SILVER SALVER
MARK OF JOHN HAMILTON, DUBLIN, 1737
Shaped circular on three scroll feet, engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on the reverse, further engraved with a scratchweight '50"14'
14½ in. (37 cm.) diam.
48 oz. (1,480 gr.)
The arms are almost certainly those of Coghill. The ommission of the engraved lines indicating the tinctures (colours) used in the arms makes a definite identification difficult however the arms are almost identical to those used by Sir John Coghill (d.1699), Master in Chancery in Ireland, the only variation being in the second and third quarters with a plain rather than and indented chief.
