The Pompeian pillared chest, with its golden patera handles framed in tablets of silken figured veneer and ribbon-banded by Grecian black inlay and reeded borders, relates to the work produced around 1800 by the Aldersgate firm of Messrs Seddon, Sons & Shackleton (see C. Gilbert, 'Seddon, Sons & Shackleton', Furniture History, 1997, pp.1-29).
