Mexican born artist Carlos Amorales has, over the last decade, developed a unique visual vocabulary (his so-called liquid archive) - that he has used and reused, both alone and in collaboration with other artists, in mediums ranging from drawing and animation to installation and performance. Amorales presents a personal view of the world in which familiar images and objects are capable of invoking collective experiences of anxiety and fear, and in so doing questions and critiques the nature of our daily certainties. His earlier works featured masked Mexican wrestlers performing in wrestling rings throughout the world, including at the Tate Modern in London and the Pompidou Center in Paris. His work is owned by The MOMA (New York), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Tate Modern (London), Walker Art Center (Mineapolis), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin). Selected exhibitions/projects include Why Fear The Future?, MUCA, Mexico City (2006), Melancholie. Genie und Wahnsinn in der Kunst, Neue Nationalgalerie (2006), Devil Dance, Museum Boijmans van Beunigen, Rotterdam (2003), 50th Venice Biennial (2003), 2nd Berlin Biennial (2001), Tirana Biennial (2001). His work was part of the exhibition Unlimited NL-3 at de Appel in 2000.
