Jeanne van Heeswijk is a visual artist who creates contexts for interaction in public spaces. She often works closely with artists (as in this case Marten Winters), designers, architects, software developers, governments and citizens to generate 'interspaces', contexts and crossovers where new relations can be established between groups of people, institutions and conceptual frameworks. Her video works have been shown around the world in exhibitions such as We are The World, Dutch Pavilion at the Venice Biennial (2004); Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Wein (2005); the Taipei Biennial (2005); and the Busan Biennial (2006). Prizes include the Hendrik Chabot prize and Prince Bernhard Culture Prize both in 2002. Jeanne van Heeswijk was a participant in The International Studio Programme at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, received a grant from Fonds BKVB (The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture) from 1989-1999, and completed a fellowship at the Lucas Artists Programs at the Montalvo Arts Center, California in 2007.
