3 volumes in 2, 2° (549 x 357mm). Lithographic general map on 4 leaves, and 186 plates on 184 leaves (of c. 249) of which 8 are chromolithographs and some tinted. (Lacking all the text after gathering 56 in vol. 1 and without gatherings 5 and 51, but with gathering 7 in duplicate, spotting, a few leaves browned). Loose and gathered in two of the original pink printed part wrappers (light wear) and two 19th-century portfolios with cloth ties.
An extensive collection of plates from 'PROBABLY THE GREATEST WORK OF EXPLORATION MADE BY A SINGLE TRAVELLER' (Blackmer). Texier travelled extensively in Asia Minor from 1834 to 1836. Rather than an account of his travel, this work is a summation of all of his findings on the ancient art, architecture and town planning of areas in which he travelled. This collection comprises nearly all the plates to Texier's first two voyages, and some from the third voyage. Atabey 1211; Blackmer 1645. (2)
