2° (567 x 445mm). Aquatint frontispiece coloured by a contemporary hand, engraved title-vignette, 12 engraved plates. (Light mostly marginal spotting.) Original grey printed wrappers (spine defective, light soiling and light spotting).

FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL WRAPPERS. THE DELUXE ISSUE WITH THE FRONTISPIECE FINELY HAND-COLOURED. The work records the reconstruction of the temple of Nike Apteros, which had lain in near total ruins since the 1680s. A contemporary manuscript note on the front wrapper identifies this as 'Pracht-ausgabe', the deluxe issue. The copies in the British Library and the RIBA are both from the regular issue with the frontispiece plain. RIBA 2842.
