Lot Essay

Seago made frequent painting trip to France after the Second World War. He first arrived in Honfleur in the autumn of 1951. The small town was one of his ports of call as he sailed up the Seine to Paris in his yacht Capricorn. Seago was captivated by Honfleur: seeing it for the first time 'was a moment whose recollection he would always treasure' (E. Seago, With Capricorn to Paris, London, 1956, p. 128). He made several return visits to the little port and recorded its beauty in numerous paintings.
