THE COLLECTION OF THE LATE EUNICE ROBINSON. Lots 338-412. Born Durban, South Africa 1919, Eunice Robinson died at the age of ninety in February 2009. As a child she went to school in Frognal, London, and then attended the Royal College of Music. She had a precocious musical talent and at a young age won several awards, including Class and Performance medals. Some of the friendships she made at Music College lasted until her death, including Natasha Spender, the widow of the poet Stephen Spender. After her return to South Africa, Eunice lived in Johannesburg, and during the 1940s and '50s performed as a Concert Pianist both in South Africa and abroad. In 1961, after her marriage ended, she made a permanent move to London where she settled in Flood Street, Chelsea. Eunice opened an antique shop in Portobello Road, which enabled her to enjoy her love of antiques and objets d'art. Her flat in Chelsea was itself a work of art and over the years she arranged and rearranged her possessions with love and infinite care.
