This robust writing-table, with reeded and antique-fluted pillar, is embellished in the Louis Quatorze manner. Golden 'ormolu' laurels wreath its cornice above a triumphal palm-flower frieze whose 'buhl-inlaid' tablets evoke Apollo as poetry deity. Such inlay was a speciality of craftsmen such as Thomas Parker (d. 1830), who served from 1805 as 'Cabinet and Buhl Manufacturer to the Court'.
