Lot Essay

The present lot shows the artist's transition from abstraction towards realism, for which he would become famous. It shows that around 1925 Willink started using fragments of reality in his otherwise abstract compositions, by means of collage. The artist was being inspired by Kurt Schwitters, during a stay in Berlin from 1921-23.

To be sold with a written confirmation of authenticity by Sylvia Willink, dated 24 February 2009.
