A PERCUSSION PLAINS RIFLE WITH TURN-OVER BARRELS FOR BALL AND SHOT
CIRCA 1840-50
With sighted heavy octagonal russet barrels released by a sping-catch on the side-plate, the rifled barrel cut with eight grooves, both sides with a full-length brass rib, that on the left formed with the ramrod aperture, plain iron lock, varnished figured 'tiger-stripe' butt, the cheekpiece inset with a pricked white metal eagle, pierced brass patch-box with hinged cover, brass mounts, ramrod, and some lightly patinated finish
