The sitters were the sons of the first Baron Brownlow. John, the elder (19 June 1779-15 September 1853) succeeded his father in 1807, and advanced to the Viscountcy of Alford and Earldom of Brownlow on 27 November 1815. He earned the titles of Lord-Lieutenant; Custos Rotulorum and Vice-Admiral of Lincolnshire, and Recorder of Boston. Henry, the younger (28 September 1780-19 May 1861), entered the Church and became Canon of Windsor.
