The etching made after the present lot appeared as Plate 74 of Volume 2 of Selby's Illustrations of British Ornithology (published 1819-34). 227 original drawings from the work survived and were sold at the Martin sale in 1989. The title of this lot and the following one is taken from the etched plate.
