2o (309 x 202 mm). Engraved title-page, 10 engraved plates (7 folding), 8 allegorical engravings beween pp. 80/81, 2 etchings in text, all by A. MATHIEU after JEAN GODRAN (several repaired tears). Contemporary limp vellum (some peeling on front cover, early compass diagram on back).
A description of the entry of BARNARD DE FOIX DE LA VALETTE (1592-1661), Duke d'Epernon, into Dijon on 8 May 1656. The book was prepared for the press by Bénigne Griguette, "advocat en Parlement & Eschevin de la ville de Dijon" and another advocate, Jean Godran, designed and drew the temporary architecture for the engraver A. Mathieu. The ephemeral decorations include a portico erected at the Porte d'Ouche and four triumphal arches. Other temporary structures include a "Colonne Militaire" resembling Trajan's column, documenting the Battle of Dreux (1562) to the Siege of Seurre (1653). The last engraving shows the firework machine and display in the Place de la Sainct Chapelle. Berlin 2997; Brunet Suppl.
