4o (236 x 176 mm). 2 engraved folding plates by C. PHELIPPEAU after LOUIS JOLIVET and LE BELIN (small tear to one plate, some slight cropping). Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt (some minor wear). Provenance: L. De Montille (bookplate).

The celebration in Dijon of the birth of LOUIS (1729-1765), Dauphin of France, son of Louis XV, King of France, and his wife Marie Leczinksa. The tragedies involving the French line of succession in the early 18th century made Louis' long-awaited birth an occasion for celebration in the cities of France. In Dijon, the festivities included a ball, a concert, a shooting contest, and a pyrotechnics display. One folding plate illustrates the triumphal arch erected in Dijon in honor of the event. Ruggieri 562; Watanabe 2059.
