FLORENCE 1608 -- BOUCQUET, Nicolas, engraver. Le manifique carousel fait sur le fleuve de l'Arne a Florence, pour le mariage du grand Duc. Paris: Balthazar Moncornet, [ca 1690].

Broadsheets (184 x 143 mm). Engraved title and 18 engraved plates by BOCQUET after GIULIO PARIGI's designs (the last slightly soiled). Late 19th- or early 20th-century half blue morocco. Provenance: André-Denis Berard (bookplate).

Second of two Parisian editions (the first was in 1661) of Bocquet's prints, reproducing Cantagallina's large etchings after Giulio Parigi, of the naval festival of 1608 held for the marriage of COSIMO II DE' MEDICI (1590-1621) with MARIA MAGDALENA (1589-1631), Archduchess of Austria. Nearly a century after the festivities, these editions reveal the long-standing popularity of the event. Although Bocquet copied Cantagallina, the influence of Callot's technique is clearly evident. Ruggieri 761; Vinet 607.
