FIRST EDITION OF THIS EXTREMLY RARE festive epic poem describing the Wedding of Count JOHANN GEORG HOHENZOLLERN-HECHINGEN, son of Eitel-Friedrich IV, and FRANCISCA, Wild- and Countess von Salm-Neufville daughter of Count Daun. The bridegroom belonged to the catholic Swabian branch of the Hohenzollern. Frischlin, a humanist poet was a schoolmaster and "Poeta et Historicus Wirtembergicus." The rhymed poem is divided into three books and contains a history of the house of Hohenzollern, and a detailed description of the wedding: the attending guests and their dresses, their gifts, the meals, the music the dance etc. The second part is richly illustrated with scenes of the procession of the guests on horseback and by coach with their retinues of gentlemen-at-arms, and of the muscial entertainment: drummers and pipers. The book is a valuable source for the history of the customs of the time and was reprinted in 1860 as well as in modern times. Goedeke II, 327,15,1; Lipperheide Sbb1; Vinet 732.
