An account of the progress of ARCHDUKE PHILIP (1527-1598), later PHILIP II, King of Spain, through the Netherlands. He had just been appointed Governor General, in 1548, and he travelled via Milan, Innsbruck, Munich, Heidelberg, to Belgium and Holland and visited nearly every town of importance. He was received with festivals and triumphal decorations in almost every place. The author mentions many interesting details, like the monument erected in honor of Erasmus in Rotterdam. The woodcut shows the triumphal arch erected in Ghent for his entry. Landwehr Splendid Ceremonies 14; Palau 40491; Ruggieri 913; Salva 3758.
