PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on behalf of the dedicatee Cardinal Francesco Barberini (1597-1679, nephew of Pope Urban VIII, one of the ten judges in Galileo's trial, but one of three not to sign the sentence) to Marcello Scuderi. This firework celebration was held in Mantua upon the election to the Papacy of MAFFEO BARBERINI (1568-1644), who took the name POPE URBAN VIII. The plate depicts the elaborate apparatus constructed for the fireworks display.
