2o (313 x 240 mm). Engraved vignette on title, engraved head-pieces and initials and four engraved folding plates by MARC ANTONIO DAL RE after the designs of JACOPO ANTONIO MANZONI. Contemporary Italian mottled sheep, covers with saw-tooth gilt border and gilt putti at the corners (some rubbing, some wear at ends of spine). Provenance: partially removed bookplate on pastedown and printed shelf label at foot of spine.
The first part of the text describes the apparati constructed for the funeral celebration of CHARLES VI (1685-1740), Holy Roman Emperor, in Milan, illustrated by four very fine plates showing the designs of Jacopo Antonio Manzoni. Lecchi's funeral oration comprises the second part of the text. Maria Theresa, Charles VI's daughter and future Holy Roman Empress, to whom the work is dedicated, called Lecchi to Vienna where he became a mathematician in her court and royal hydrographer. RARE.
