A superb description of the tournament in Modena for the christening of FRANCESCO III MARIA D'ESTE (1698-1780), son of Rinaldo I, Duke of Modena. Two of the plates show the elaborate carriages constructed for the occasion and a third shows the "Macchina del'eternita," an enormous apparati resting on a dragon. The fourth plate is of the "Machina dell'invidia": an apparatus built into the Modenese landscape. The fifth and final plate shows the large amphiteater with spectators watching the horse riders perform. Berlin 3057; Watanabe 537 (noting only "2 small woodcuts).
