REGGIO EMILIA 1619 -- ISACCHI, Alfonso. Relatione intorno l'origine, solennita, traslatione, et miracoli della Modonna di Reggio. Reggio: Flaminio Bartoli, 1619.

4o (234 x 179 mm). Engraved title and 11 engraved folding plates, eight by GIOVAN LUIGI VALESIO. Contemporary Italian plain paper boards, manuscript title on spine.

Isacchi describes the festivities staged to celebrate the transfer of the miraculous painting of the Virgin of Reggio to a new shrine built in its honor on 12 May 1619. Eight of the plates are by Giovan Luigi Valesio (1583-1650), a pupil of Carracci, and show the extremely elaborate triumphal chariots designed for the occasion by the confraternity of Reggio. Three represent views of the new church to house the shrine. The story of the cult worship surrounding the altar-painting and its purported healing powers is told in the first part of the text and the second lists the 175 supposed miracles. The dedication is to CESARE D'ESTE, Duke of Reggio and Modena, who took part in the ceremonies. Berlin 3199; Lipperheide Sl4; Vinet 810.
