La base formée de plusieurs étagements, comprenant une balustrade, la partie incluant le pique-cierge en forme de lotus émaillé bleu, la lanterne en forme de double-gourde aux côtés ajourés en treillis, les faces rehaussées de frises de volutes et fleurs, délimitant des panneaux de verre peints des caractères Ta et Chi (Bonne Chance), entourés des emblèmes bouddhistes de Bon Augure, la partie centrale agrémentée d'un ruban noué de part et d'autre, la partie supérieure composée d'un pavillon orné de chauve-souris et d'un dôme ajouré décoré de caractères shou, la corniche comprenant quatre ornements en forme de lingzhi, la prise en forme de double-gourde ; petits manques et restaurations

Lot Essay

These type of lantern were meant to embellish the various palaces of the Qing emperors. Some are still in situ at the Forbidden City.
See a wood double-gourd lantern with glass panels in the Eastern Inner Chamber of the Palace of Eternal Spring (Changchun gong), illustrated in The Eternal Forbidden City, Beijing 2004, p.102.
