Paulus Bramer is believed to have been born in 1696 in Amsterdam, but the first record of his name is in an advertisement from June 1715, in which he offered various clocks for sale. Bramer was most famous for his complicated and ornate clocks, examples of which included as many as 12 bells along with other complications such as the moonphase. Pocket watches signed Bramer are far rarer than his clocks. This watch, similar to some of the known examples of his clocks, is constructed using tortoiseshell, a favored material of Bramer's. Paulus Bramer died in 1770.
