8o (167 x 108 mm). Printer's device on title, 517 woodcut illustrations of plants. Contemporary calf ruled in blind and stamped in gilt (rebacked); slipcase. Provenance: extensive marginalia (ownship inscription erased from title); Joannes Dueil (signature on title).

Second edition, and the fourth use of these woodcuts. Fuchs intended this work to be a handy guide to plant identification for collectors of specimens, and had the woodcuts of his 1542 folio edition reduced accordingly. It consists almost entirely of woodcuts with plant names in Latin and German. The contemporary annotations in the present copy show that it was indeed used to identify specimens. The annotations also give fuller details of a number of plants and cite Galen and Dioscorides on their medicinal properties. Hunt 63; Nissen BBI 661.
