This Dogon figure, clearly of great age, can be compared with the figures in Tintam style illustrated by Hélène Leloup in her book Dogon Statuary (Strasbourg, 1994). She writes: "The choice of the name Tintam to characterize a style, more precisely that of the Bondum region is due to: the historical importance of this village; the fact that it is situated on a peak at the end of a sinuous road which seems particularly surprising; and the fact that it remained animist whereas De, the other important village in the region, is Fulani ever since the 15th century" (op. cit, p.163). This region has not been studied, probably because the villages are difficult to reach, contrary to those on the Plateau. See for related figures nos.101-102 and 103.
