Lot Essay

Radiohead drummer, Phil Selway, raised more than £18,000 for charity through sponsorship donations by running the London Marathon in April 2002. He donated all the pledges to the Samaritans, a U.K. organization offering crisis and emotional support, through the Radiohead fan site, W.A.S.T.E., and all donators were entered into a draw to win the drums he used on the recording of OK Computer. He explained on the W.A.S.T.E. website when requesting sponsorship Before we start work on the next Radiohead album, I will foolishly be running in the London Marathon, on Sunday 14th April. [2002] I am writing to ask if you would kindly sponsor me for this event, and help me raise much-needed funds for the Samaritans. He explained further that ...I'm hoping to run the Marathon in four hours. In those four hours, The Samaritans will take around 2,200 calls from people who are in need of emotional support. He finished by confirming that ...all sponsors will be entered into a draw to win the drum kit which I used on various tracks on 'OK Computer', including 'Exit Music' and 'Paranoid Android'. The kit is a five-piece cherry-red Premier XPK, complete with cymbal stands and bass drum pedal, the ride and crash cymbals were also used in the 'Ok Computer' sessions
