Lot Essay

In 1953, as reports came in from America of Dylan Thomas' imminent death, Richards executed an number of ink drawings against certain Thomas poems. Following Thomas' death, Richards became obsessed with his poetry, making a number of works, many (as in the present work) featuring the poet himself, the estuary landscape of Laugharne and the birds of the bay and its overhanging hill.
